World #3 Stacy Lewis signs new deal with Mizuno
Mizuno secure both ladies and men’s world #3’s in the same week
Japanese club-maker Mizuno has announced the final signing to their 2013 tour team, with world #3 (and 2012 LPGA Tour Player of the year) Stacy Lewis agreeing to a multi-year contract extension. After leading the tour with four wins in 2012, the agreement means that Lewis will continue playing Mizuno equipment, extending the long-standing relationship that began during Lewis’ freshman year at Arkansas. Following the signing of Luke Donald the announcement means that Mizuno have quietly secured both the men’s and ladies #3 ranked players in the same week.
“Stacy has been an incredible ambassador and we are thrilled to see the relationship continue,” said Dick Lyons, Vice President and General Manager, Golf Division for Mizuno USA, Inc. “Stacy’s amazing story of overcoming Scoliosis as a teenager to winning Player of the Year in 2012 is a testament to her attitude and the embodiment of what Mizuno looks for in a brand ambassador. We couldn’t be more proud of her past achievements and are excited about what the future holds for her.”
Consistently displaying poise, dependability and a strong short game with her Mizuno JPX irons, woods, and MP wedges, Lewis notched 16 top-10 finishes, more than any player on the 2012 LPGA tour. Following wins at the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic in May and the ShopRite in June, she added fall victories at the Navistar LPGA Classic and the Mizuno Classic in Japan, where she all-but-locked-up a trip to the podium at the season-ending Rolex Awards Reception. Lewis ascended to second in the Rolex Rankings, making her the highest ranked American golfer on the LPGA tour. For the year, Stacy ranked No. 1 on Tour in birdies, eagles and rounds in the 60’s, and second in Greens in Regulation.
“Since my freshman year at Arkansas, Mizuno has been my equipment manufacturer of choice,” said Lewis. “As my career continues into 2013, I’m looking forward to the extension of the partnership. Mizuno has helped me reach many of my goals thus far, and I’m looking forward to building on last year’s momentum for another successful season.”
Lewis is the second world #3 to sign for Mizuno in a week, with Luke Donald also agreeing extended terms. Lewis joins a strong international team of Mizuno ladies players including Jiyai Shin, Mayu Hattori, Akane IIjima, Diana Luna, Sophie Sandolo, Veronica Zorzi, Federica Piovano and Virginie Lagoutte-Clement.
