Mizuno's European Talent Visits the Tour Studio
Marco Penge, Olivia Cowan and George Bloor review their equipment for 2024 season
With the first stretch of 2024 behind them, a trio of Mizuno’s rising UK-based tour talent took the opportunity to drop into the Tour Studio at Bearwood Lakes GC. With the workshop at its Bearwood Lakes home and all three players with a bank of tournament play behind them, May was an ideal opportunity to take stock of their equipment. Mizuno’s Joe Beck commented;
Its a lot easier to assess how a players equipment is bedding in after a run of tournaments. The favourite clubs are well extablished and the gaps, uncomfortable parts have revealed themselves under tournament pressure. Tour players are just like the rest of us – we react a little differently to the range and the golf course.
Our 2024 Challenge Tour order of merit winner Marco Penge needed the biggest reset. A recent swing change left Marco’s Mizuno Pro 241s digging into the turf. Beck identified that the Mizuno Pro 243s wider sole would help Penge exit the turf more easily The 243s also have a stronger standard loft – no additional loft strengthening meant that the entirety of the wider sole would be in play.

Rising LPGA star Olivia Cowan is always a popular visitor to the studio. Her straight hitting usually results in a simple feel-based fitting and grip refresh. However, this time, Olivia noticed that the distance gap between her ST MAX 3 wood and 5 wood was too close to be effective. So, in came a faster flying, more penetrating ST-G 3 wood.

The 2024 Clutch Pro Tour order of merit winner George Bloor had a different issue again – having found that we’d fitted a left-handed loft sleeve adapter to his ST MAX driver. Meaning his efforts to add loft and spin had the opposite effect.
@mizunogolf Annual equipnent check for 2023 @Clutch Pro Tour order of merit winner Geirge Bloor. A tweak to driver, new Fli-Hi and wedges heve George set for a run of events on the Chalenge Tour.
Keep an eye on Marco, Olivia and George for 2024. We’ve high hopes for all three.
