Scott Vincent wins Mizuno Open in Japan
Four starting spots for The Open at St Andrews secured
Mizuno’s flagship event – the Mizuno Open has been won by Scott Vincent, with a set of Mizuno irons. The win guarantees Scott a starting spot at The Open Championship at St Andrews. The 51st Mizuno Open was held at Setonaika golf club in Okayama. Mizuno was represented by 17 full staff players.
Vincent won with a full set-up of JPX 921 TOUR irons (#4-Pw).on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff to take the title at JFE Setonaikai Golf Club, claiming one of four spots available at St Andrews in the latest Open Qualifying Series event. Vincent will be joined by Anthony Quayle, Brad Kennedy and Justin De Los Santos in The 150th Open from 10-17 July.
Vincent was the star performer on the final day. Having teed off seven shots back, he followed an eagle at the second with five birdies in a bogey-free 65. Two pars on 18 in the subsequent play-off were enough to secure the Zimbabwean a third Japan Golf Tour title in the space of 10 months.
I’m really excited about playing my first Major, especially at St Andrews, the Home of Golf,” said Vincent. “It was a goal of mine, starting the year, to try to get into one of the Majors. So this is special and I’m very happy.
