Mizuno’s Stacy Lewis has won the Women’s British Open after recording consecutive birdies on the final two holes at St Andrews.

Lewis, playing JPX825Pro irons, MP T-11 wedges an MP-650 fairway wood and JPX825 hybrid, carded a closing level-par 72 to finish two shots clear on 8-under and record the second major title of her career.

Lewis also secured the 2nd Women’s British Open in a row for Mizuno with Jiyai Shin winning in 2012. Lewis also snapped a streak of 10 consecutive majors won by Asian-born players – a period which dates back to when she won her first major at the 2011 Kraft Nabisco.

The 28-year-old American found herself three shots behind Choi with five holes to play but aided by a mini collpase from the South Korean, Lewis capitalised superbly with birdies at the Home of Golf’s iconic 17th and 18th holes. Lewis split the middle of the fairway at 17 before sending her JPX-825 Pro 5-iron down the pin to within three-feet for birdie.

After taping home to move into a tie for the lead, Lewis then smashed a drive down 18 before putting her ball from 30 yards away on the fairway to some 30-feet. In what appeared a safe play, to avoid coming up short in the famous Valley of Sin, the eight-time LPGA Tour champion rolled her ball into darkness to take the coveted prize.

“It all happened so fast at the end. You are fighting for every shot then all of a sudden you make a couple of birdies and it’s all over,” said Lewis.

“I love this golf course. I have played so many rounds on it. I felt so comfortable here. It almost felt like it was meant to be.”

At the age of 11, Lewis wore a corrective body brace for 18 hours a day over a period of seven years as a medical examination revealed she had scoliosis – a curving of the spine. Read more on Stacy’s story
